Frequently Asked Questions
Where will I be hunting?
Hunting takes place on numerous privately owned high and low fenced areas across the Eastern Cape.
Who will be my hunting guide?
African Legends Hunting Safaris makes use of a few hand picked Professional Hunters. All of which will give you 100% all the time.
What hunting method will be used?
We believe in fair chase hunting done by the means of walk and stalk.
Can I bring my family?
Of course!
Friends and family are welcome, we believe that conservation through hunting should be experienced by everyone.
We believe that conservation awareness through hunting can be created by exposing it to family and friends and especially the younger generations education.
Our photographic safari may also be of interest when they join us.
What medical precautions should I take?
Eastern Cape is malaria free. Although we advise a repellent for mosquitos and ticks! (Maybe some anti-itch cream too)
We would also advise visiting your local doctor for their travel advise recommendations.
Do I need a hunting license?
In South Africa a hunting license is required – we will issue this to you upon your arrival.
Can I rent/hire a rifle?
Yes!
A rifle can be hired at $30 per day with around of ammunition at $3.
However if you have your own rifle we recommend bringing this due to being familiar with the use of it.
How do I bring my own rifles to South Africa?
Firearm import/export permits can be issued at both our international airports (Johannesburg and Cape Town) or applied for in advance of departure to South Africa.
To make it as hassle free as possible for our clients, African Legends has installed links for the required application forms (see ‘what paperwork do I need?’).
The forms for import/export of rifles are SAPS520 and US custom form 4457
Followed by:
· Notarised copy of your passport
· Notarised copy of US custom form 4457 or license (which ever is applicable)
· Hard copy of your flight itinerary
· Invitation letter to hunt with African Legends Hunting Safaris
We recommend you make use of www.hunterssupport.com with lots of useful information applicable to different countries. Or please do not hesitate to contact us with any queries regarding import and export.
How many bullets should I bring?
A maximum of 200 bullets per caliber is allowed. Most airlines have a weight limit on ammo of +/- 11lbs (5kg).
We recommend no more than 80 rounds per caliber.
What is the recommended caliber?
For larger plains game species we recommend; 270, 308, 30-06, 7 mm, 300 Win Mag, 300 Weatherby and 338. For smaller plains game species we prefer; 222, 223 and 243.
Most Southern African countries by law require a minimum of 375 for all dangerous game.
We recommend at least a 375 on Buffalo or Lion. If you are hunting Hippo, Elephant or White Rhino you may want to consider a caliber larger than 375.
Always ensure you have a strong protective rifle case to travel with internationally, with a separate case for ammunition. Having good locks on these cases are essential. We advise you bring along an extra soft case per gun, the soft case not only protects the rifle from dust, but also ensures the rifles are secure in rifle racks on the back of vehicles when travelling.
What travelling and visa requirements are there for South Africa?
Passports are required for travel to South Africa.
Please note that for the most part no Visas are required.
American and European Union passports are sufficient for entries into South Africa.
What should I bring to wear?
Camouflage clothing is essential, however any neutral coloured clothing e.g. Olive or khaki will be sufficient.
A good pair of walking/hiking boots is needed – that have been well worn in and moulded to your feet before the hunt.(your feet will thank you for it!)
A waterproof jacket – because sometimes it does rain in Africa!

Karl and his team will ensure your animals will have a true reflection of what they look like when harvested and will also see that your trophies are exported safely to your country of origin.
